I'm not entirely convinced yet myself. Dotemu has a bad track record of porting things (all I know that they've done personally) and I'm not familiar with anyone else involved, and no mention of Yuzo Koshiro involved or it having similar strong sounds/things evoking its legacy.
The art/art style itself is okay, if a bit more western than I'd like. We'll see. This group is also doing the Windjammers "2", so we'll see how their ideas pan out.
It seems to be a symptom of Sega and SNK as well really handing out their licenses to whoever.

I will think hard about it...
Streets of Rage Remake V5.1! Was an excellent fangame, delivered for free. Which surpassed all official, canon games, made by Sega. And ultimately, received an unjust Cease and Desist order.
The issues at hand are twofold...
1. Does Sega still have the skills, conviction, inspiration, to create a good old game, in modern times? 2. Can they pull it off? I mean, group of passionate, dedicated fans, created a much better game... Without commercial prospect or gain.
Also, can a true fan ignore the hate? Not only they crushed some amazing fangames over the years, but they even shut down Sega Australia before, which was working on 4 official canon remakes: Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Streets of Rage and Outrun (or Shinobi, now, was it?). I hate them for what they have become, what they now stand for, how they themselves crush their rich and abundant legacy from the distant past. Sega is what eats away and destroys Sega, little by little, after all.

Next to Konami, all are saints at the very least eh?
Sega reminds me a lot of SNK nowadays. They do alright, if a bit too liberal with their licensing. I've never seen so many KoF characters spread around everywhere. Sega is doing it with peripherals and games.

My heart can't take it. Devil May Cry 5, the Shenmue collection, a remaster of Onimusha, and now Streets of Rage coming back that isn't a fan made game that really can't be topped? This year has been great for game announcements. I'm impressed. I'll see what they do with this Streets of Rage. My favorite composer better come back for this, it's barely SOR without Yuzoboy.
