Megaman's canon is a hot topic of debate among fans. There are many contradictory sources and information.
According to Megaman Wikia, that follows official releases and books on Japan, this is, supposely, Megaman's timeline:
Megaman Series (also known as Classic series) (20XX): 1, 2, Dr. Willy's Revenge, 3, II, 4, III, 5, IV, V, 6, 7, 8, Megaman & Bass, 9, 10, 11.
Megaman X series (21XX): X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, X8,
Megaman Zero series (few centuries after X series): Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4
Megaman ZX series (a century after Z series): ZX, ZX Advent.
Megaman Legends series (thousand years after ZX series): Tron Bonne, Megaman Legends, Rockman DASH: 5tsu no Shima no Daibouken, Megaman Legends 2.
Notes: -Megaman World series (Gameboy and such, those with roman numbers) fit the storyline, but their canonicity is debated.
-Megaman X6, X7 and X8 are officially considered canon by Capcom. X5's canon ending is one where X defeats Sigma, Zero vaporizes and Dr.'s Light hologram repairs X's body. X6's canon ending is the one where X defeats Zero Nightmare and Zero returns through it's own remains used to built Zero Nightmare. Zero series implies events happening during or after X6, but, with some effort, it is possible to consider both X6, X7 and X8 as canon if one follows Capcom's canon endings.
-Megaman X Command Mission is officially considered non-canon by Capcom.
-Megaman legends is officially considered canon by Capcom, but it takes place "several thousand years later" ZX, implying the whole world is completely different due to the huge gap between series.

I can't help but wonder if PSP remake of X1 was an attempt from Capcom to streamline the narrative of the X series. If they were allowed to continue, they would have been able to fix plot holes/issues.
Oh well.

If they were allowed to continue, they would have been able to fix plot holes/issues. Oh well. Maverick Hunter X (PSP)'s story was a bit of a mess, too. It tried to introduce the "Suffering Circuit" as a reason for Sigma to try and convince X to join his side, but it partly conflicts with Sigma's fascination with Zero in X4, X5 & X6. All in all, Capcom's never even made a serious attempt to retcon or explain some issues with the X-series (particularly the poor translation in X6). The last time I saw confirmation of a timeline the "Complete Works" book for the Zero series, which Inti-Creates was responsible for. It makes me sad that Command Mission would be considered "non-canon", though. Personally, the alternate endings in X5 & X6 have convinced me that Capcom genuinely tried to split the X-series timeline.

This Legacy Collection makes me think again of how badly I'd like a PC HD version of the Zero collection. I never played any game of the original Megaman series (until the end, at least) and just one or two of the X games, but I played all four Zero titles and they were bloody incredible. That collection is to good to remain DS only.
(on a side note: I also love the ZX games. I'm very excited to pick up the X series for basically the first time. I didn't have much luck with the classic series, I didn't really like the earliest games, but X should be closer to Zero in terms of gameplay so I'm really hyped)

There are several games in my life I have dedicated to throwing money at over and over again no matter how times it gets released. One of the top ones on that list is the Mega Man X series. I'm all about me some Mega Man X. The series has had its ups and downs, and I wish the Legacy Collection had a bit more to it. The 2 Xtreme games and Command Mission comes to mind. I also wish it wasn't split up, but I get why. Despite that, I am going to be throwing my money at it twice for PC and for my Switch.

Megaman Zero series are the best series, plot-wise, but the X series are the best, gameplay-wise, in my opinion. All X games are great to me, although, not all of them are capable of maintaining the same overall quality, but i love how they tried to improve the game's formula over time. For a Igavania fan, it's really fun to play X series, because they do have some "Igavania elements" to them. In all of them you have things to collect, such as Life Ups (increase Health bar size permanently), Health tanks (can store life energy to use later on) and specially Armor parts (give special abilities, progression abilities and such). The games have locked areas where you need special weapons or armor parts to progress on them. Even the older ones requires quite some hours if you want to finish them picking up everything. If you just played one or two of them and liked, rest assured: you are going to love playing all of them. I loved X series so much that even today, i remember where ALL pick ups from X, X2, X3 and X4 are, and also what weapon to be used on each boss. X5 ownards i don't remember everything, but i still have some of that info on my head.

Jowy Avilon we live in an era where DLC is now a thing as opposed to the GC/PS2 era. We may get Command Mission the Xtreme games if we scream at Capcom loud enough.

I'm just hoping the complete Legacy Collection sells enough to drum up enough interest and show Capcom, there is still love for Mega Man X and maybe finally get them thinking on Mega Man X9. Love of Classic series finally got it 9, 10, and now 11 incoming, so hopefully we can do the same for the X series.

These legacy collections better fix the quick-kill glitches for some bosses. It was kinda frustrating (in X4) to get stuck in Web Spider's boss room as X after firing a fully-charged Twin Slasher.

Galamoth That reminds me how stupidly broken the helmet upgrade is in X4. Unlimited non-charged special weapons. Hello Spamfest.

Galamoth That reminds me how stupidly broken the helmet upgrade is in X4. Unlimited non-charged special weapons. Hello Spamfest. Most armor upgrades among X series are quite balanced and interesting, but that one is indeed broken. Unfortunately, the weapons are rarely used during stages since it's hard to recharge them, so, they serve almost no purpose besides using on bosses. I think the megaman series could have an auto-heal feature for all weapons (like MP on Igavania games) slowly recovering all weapons energy. That way, you could strategically use them on stages, but would still need items to refill them and you wouldn't be able to "spamfest" them either. If one day Capcom create a new megaman, here's a humble suggestion to spice things up: auto-heal weapon energy.

Until you get to the Ultimate Armor, the developers don't even try to balance that thing. Especially in X8, that thing just snaps the game in half. (It's difficult to use the X8 Nova Strike against Gigabolt though, due to the small size of the boss fight arena and the bottomless pits)
Speaking of, X8 is probably the game here that I'm most interested in. I kinda enjoyed most of the later X games, but X8 was imo the most enjoyable X game since X1.

Was just thinking.. It'd be cool if they could figure out a way to add the "tatsumaki senpukyaku" to X3. Never really cared much for that "golden armor" easter egg.

yeah I was never really a fan of the multiple armors in X games. They either seemed gimmicky or tacky to me. I also didn't like starting a game with it
Ryngar I guess you'll have to play MM3 and use Top Spin and your imagination lol
