Again as I always say, I hope with all the weapons that are included in the game there's a BIGGER focus on making weapons LOOK/SOUND unique. Alucard sword with it's fiery blue slash and thick bassy crunch, marsil with the explosive red fire and fiery sound...etc..etc. That's the thing that's important. The more unique looking/sounding the more enjoyable it is to find new weapons. ( i've made this point at least 10 other times )

I think we can count on Bloodstained's development team to have great attention to detail. The one thing that impresses me highly about Inti and why I'm glad they're involved is their animation work. In the sample animation they first showed, those little enemies with the eyeballs spinning around and then it died it fell with the blood. It's so wonderfully animated that it almost looks 2d. I think they will do great work with the animation, it's one of the things that to me was lacking in DXC, it was very stiff animation wise. They look like they will get the movements perfectly 2d looking.

I only know because I've played as Soma a lot more than any other character (excluding Charlotte). I still need to play as Shanoa! ^ (EDIT): I admit that, whenever I played as Alucard in HoD, I've never had him use a katana weapon, so I don't know if the animation is the same for him. Who knows? Maybe Bloodstained's Katana weapons will indeed retain an Iaijutsu animation.

You're right. I don't think I used this much because of the reasons you stated. I like the idea of it being chargeable, 1f attack if held long enough, and maybe a high critical rate? It could be a timing-based weapon with a certain rhythm as opposed to pure dps. Maybe a just-frame mechanic for that? To further viability, that could also negate/reflect projectiles, or outright create one after alchemy enhancements... Iai is too cool to not have one way or another. We're getting katanas obviously, so something so stylish is hard to pass up.

This is a total joke/gag weapon but it wouldn't be the first time something like this was done (Alucart Sword) Ladies, Gentlemen and everything else, I humbly suggest A PILLOW WEAPON! It could even be hard-coded so that it only does 1 damage (even with crits). Maybe pave the way for a 1 damage challenge. Why a pillow? We need more weaponized pillows in video games. That's why. add in that you can get it by jumping on the bed in Miriam's room a certain number of times to make the pillow fall off and she can then pick it up.
